Seafood Marketing Logo Contest Winner

Annapolis, Md. (August 14, 2012) ─ The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today unveiled the new logo for its Seafood Marketing Program. The winning design, created by John Snyder of Baltimore, will be used to in seafood marketing promotions throughout the State. Snyder, 50, is an award winning, free-lance interactive artist and illustrator, with clients from around the world.

“Being a former chef, I wanted to incorporate the major seafood, that to me, represented the Chesapeake region,” said Snyder. “I wanted a clean, modern and graphically simple design that translated well across all mediums. I also wanted the identity to reflect the colors of the Maryland State flag.”

Earlier this summer, DNR’s Seafood Marketing Program held a logo contest in search of a new emblem that would showcase the Chesapeake Bay’s bounty. The Seafood Marketing Advisory Commission, responsible for choosing a winner, decided on Snyder’s design from the more than 75 submissions.

“Snyder’s creation was chosen because it was fresh and vibrant, incorporating all of Maryland’s iconic seafood,” said Steve Vilnit, DNR Fisheries marketing director. “DNR would like to thank all of those who participated in the contest. We were truly impressed with the thought and effort that went into each design.”

Snyder and four of his friends will enjoy a Chesapeake Bay Charter trip where they will harvest their choice of Maryland’s prime, native, seafood species ─ blue crab, striped bass or oyster.
